The term CSA refers to Community Supported Agriculture. It is a system in which members sign up and pay a fee early in the year to a farmer, who in turn supplies the members with a weekly supply of fresh produce. Usually this community is concerned about food quality and where and how their food is grown.
We have a fairly limited CSA at this point as we develop our soil and our growing practices. Our CSA began in 2006 with only 5 members and grew to 12 members in 2007. We are aniticipating remaining between 12 and 16 members for the immediate future.
Below is the list of much of what we're planning to grow for the 2010 CSA:
Arugula - a fast growing salad crop
Beans - green beans
Beets
Broccoli
Cabbage
Carrots
Chard
Cucumber
Eggplant
Kohlrabi
Lettuce - 10-12 leafy and colorful varieties
Peas - the small snow pea variety
Peppers - Bells, Sweet Banana, Chili, Jalepeno, and other varieties
Potatoes - Red Norland, Yellow Yukon and White Russets
Pumpkins and Winter Squash varieties
Radishes
Rutabaga

Sweet Corn
Tomatoes - A variety of different heirloom and hybrids

Our 2010 vegetable shares will be $250.
We are also offering additional options to the vegetable CSA:

August 9 - Sorting onions
Saturday, July 26 - Potato digging. Come join us as we see what's been growing underground the past couple months. We'll start with the Red Norlands and then move on to the Yellow Yukon Golds if there's time and if they are ready. We'll leave the Russets for later in the season.
Saturday, June 28 - Weeding and Picking Day. If you are interested in seeing where snow peas, summer squash and other early summer vegetables come from, we'd be happy to show you around and let you do some of the work with your family. Come between 9:00 a.m. and noon.
Saturday, May 24 - Transplanting. Join us on this day as we transplant many items from the greenhouse to the garden. We have the following plants all warm and cozy in trays in the greenhouse: broccoli, cauliflower, cantaloupe, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, kohlrabi, cabbage and herbs.
Below is a picture of our helpers on our May 24 planting day. The VanderLei's came out and helped plant over 200 tomato plants and dozens of broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage plants.
